Contact lenses are a great option for vision correction when playing sports. Contact lenses are stable and do not interfere with your game. However, when swimming, it is best to either wear goggles or throw away your lens after you swim. Daily disposable lenses are a good choice for swimming.

Proper care of your lenses is essential. Always wash your hands before handling them and rinse them before putting them in a case or putting in eye.
There are many choices available in lens cleaning and disinfecting. Both of our doctors recommend Optifree Replenish and Clear Care. Optifree is a one-bottle solution that is used to rinse, clean, disinfect and remove protein. Clear Care is a hydrogen peroxide solution with an easy-to-use case for storing.

When you wear contact lenses, your eyes are more sensitive to light. Your eyes need just as much protection from UV rays as your skin does. Sunglasses with 100% UV protection should be worn.

Contact lens prescriptions are valid for only one year. If you have placed an order past the expiration date, the order will not go through. Also, if you ordered a large supply, but you're almost due for an exam, we can usually approve smaller orders, after confirming with the doctor. The doctor needs to see you back for an eye exam to ensure that your eyes are healthy before approving more contact lens orders (or large supplies). If you need a few lenses to get by before you can make an appointment, please call our office at (310) 966-5030 to order some trial lenses.

Contact lenses may be worn most of the day and some are approved for wear day and night. Although you have the convenience of not needing your glasses to see, a pair of glasses should be available for times when you may not feel like wearing your lenses. Other reasons for having a pair of glasses are if you tear a lens, seasonal allergies that may affect your ability to wear your lenses or if you are traveling and lose a lens.

Disposable contact lenses are soft contact lenses that are replaced frequently. The recommended wearing time will be determined by the manufacturer and your eye care professional. The benefit of replacing contact lenses on a frequent basis is to prevent discomfort, dryness, blurred vision and allergic reactions that can result from a buildup of protein and lipid deposits on the lenses. Our practice can provide the options and help you in choosing the appropriate frequency.
