Will I still need glasses if I wear contact lenses?

Contact lenses may be worn most of the day and you may even sleep in some brands. Although you have the convenience of not needing your glasses most of the time, a pair of glasses should be available for the times when you may not feel like or can not wear your lenses. Other reasons for having a pair of glasses are if you tear a lens, seasonal allergies that may affect your ability to wear your lenses, long trips on a plane, hospital stays, eye infections, if you have the cold or flu, or if you are lose a lens. Glasses are also a fashion accessory.

What are Disposable lenses and what are the benefits?

Disposable contact lenses are soft contact lenses that are replaced frequently. The recommended wearing time will be determined by the manufacturer and Dr. Koepnick. The benefit of replacing contact lenses on a frequent basis is to prevent discomfort, dryness, blurred vision, and allergic reactions that can result form a buildup of protein and lipid deposits on the lenses. Dr. Koepnick will discuss with you what options are available and what modality would best suit your individual visual needs.

I need reading glasses or a bifocal. Are there bifocal contact lenses available?

Special bifocal/multifocal contact lenses are available. Several manufacturers have recently introduced disposable bifocal/multifocal contact lenses. As an alternative, Dr. Koepnick may choose to fit you with a system called monovision whereby one eye is fit with a distant lens and the other with a reading lens.

I have astigmatism. Am I a candidate for contact lenses?

Lenses that correct almost any amount of astigmatism are now available. Unlike lenses for astigmatism in the past, these lenses are very comfortable, offer stable vision, and are even available as disposable lenses.

Can I play sports with my contact lenses on?

Contact lenses are a great option for vision correction when playing sports. Contact lenses are stable and do not interfere with your game.

Is it difficult to care for your contact lenses after removing them?

There are many easy systems available to clean and disinfect your lenses. A popular choice is a one-bottle solution that is used to rinse, clean, disinfect and remove protein.

What about laser surgery to correct my vision?

Laser vision correction is available for both nearsighted and farsighted patients. The surgery is performed by an Ophthalmologist. Dr. Koepnick can recommend Ophtalmologists in the area who specialize in this type of surgery, and can even participate in your pre and post operative care. Our practice can provide more information regarding the benefits and risks associated with laser vision correction.

Do colored contact lenses really change eye color?

Colored contact lenses are available in various colors and shades. There are lenses available to enhance a light eye and lenses that will change a brown eye to blue, green, violet, hazel and many other colors. No eye is too dark for colored contact lenses. We have sample lenses of almost every color in our practice, and Annia or Jackie would be happy to show you how you can change your eye color. They work and they are fun!
