Services
Our practice is based on the philosophy of providing quality comprehensive vision care. Using the latest in technology, we provide Professional eye examinations including dilation of the pupil. If you have high eye pressure or glaucoma, new therapy is now under study here at the Florida Ophthalmic Institute. Current research involves many new drugs and drug combinations. The thrust of this research is not only to further lower intraocular pressure, but to protect the optic nerve from damage. We would encourage you to inquire about these new therapies. Consider participating in one of our many research programs so you can try one of these new drugs and we can assess their potential for better control of your glaucoma. Diabetes mellitis is a chronic disease which can permanently damage vision. It is essential that annual examinations be performed in all diabetics to identify retinal changes before they damage vision. Fortunately, early diagnosis and laser treatment can usually prevent vision loss. If you or those close to you are at risk, please schedule an appointment for this evaluation soon. Macular degeneration ia s treatable disease. New laser therapies have been developed which are much safer and offer the possibility of actual prevention of the damage to the retina which can occur with aging. You are an essential part of the diagnostic process. By checking your vision in each eye daily, you can determine the presence of any change in acuity so that early treatment is possible. Ask for a free vision screening kit and use it daily. Remember to wear sunglasses at all times when outside and to use anti-oxidant vitamines on a daily basis. The appearance of new floaters, spots and flashing streaks of light are signs of retinal traction disease. These symptoms should be promptly evaluated with a dilated examination of the interior of your eyes. Early diagnosis of a retinal tear makes treatment easier and more successful. Fortunately, most new floaters are not associated with severe damage to the retina and do not require treatment. Nonetheless, evaluation is needed to insure this good prognosis.
