The appearance of new floaters, spots and flashing streaks of light are signs of retinal traction disease. These symptoms should be promptly evaluated with a dilated examination of the interior of your eyes. Early diagnosis of a retinal tear makes treatment easier and more successful. Fortunately, most new floaters are not associated with severe damage to the retina and do not require treatment. Nonetheless, evaluation is needed to insure this good prognosis.
